Building a Custom Home in Woodland Park, Colorado. Presented by Scott Homes Ltd.
The process begins by clearing and leveling the site, removing any debris, trees and underbrush to prepare for construction
Next, we dig out the basement, laying the groundwork for the foundation.
Footers are installed to support the foundation walls. They are crucial for distributing the weight of the home evenly.
We then install the foundation wall forms, ensuring they are aligned and secure.
Concrete is poured in the forms, carefully filling every corner to create a solid base for the home.
Once the concrete has cured, the forms are removed to reveal the newly formed foundation walls.
The foundation is then waterproofed to prevent any moisture from penetrating and compromising the structure.
The water service line is then installed to provide water to the entire home.
Rough plumbing is installed setting up the basic pipe layout before the basement floor is poured.
A passive radon vent is also installed. This will allow an active radon system to be installed after closing if radon gas is determined to be over the allowed limit.
Next, concrete is poured for the basement floor.
With the basement set, we begin framing the main floor, outlining the homes’ primary living spaces.
Roof trusses are added, forming the skeleton of the roof and defining the upper profile of the house.
Interior walls are framed, further dividing the space into rooms according to the design plan.
The roof is sealed, or “dried in,” protecting the interior from weather as we prepare to add shingles.
Inside a gas log fireplace is installed in the living room.
And in the basement plumbing, the hot water heater, and hvac systems are installed.
Throughout the house, the remaining plumbing is run and fixtures are put in place, completing the homes water and sewage systems.
Electric is also run throughout the house including wiring, outlets, and switches.
The exterior of the house is wrapped in a protective barrier that will underlie the siding. It helps to protect the structure from water and bacteria.
The next step is to apply siding. On this home we are applying durable james hardie plank siding. But your home could be stucco, or any other siding you wish.
Up on the roof, shingles are installed providing the final weatherproofing layer.
Inside the walls have been painted, setting the stage for the installation of trim.
Next, the flooring is laid, and this is starting to look like a home.
In the kitchens and baths cabinetry and fixtures are installed.
After the trim is installed around doors, windows and baseboards, it is ready for paint.
As a final step, major appliances are installed and the house is ready for you to walk-through.
Finally the construction is complete. Now you will go to the closing and and receive the keys to your new home.
